Fueling Young Athletes

As a #boymom and certified Sports Nutrition Coach, I can tell you- all the great athletes have to pay just as much attention to their nutrition as they do to their training. My boys are all super active, and with every season I am more and more thankful they have the nutritional support their little bodies need.

Now, I know our athletes are ‘just kids’.
But, nutrition is just as important for young athletes!

Have you noticed it’s at this point in the season you see the poor fueling pre and post games start to catch up with their exerted bodies?

Immune systems start to weaken so you see more colds, allergies, and illnesses. In all athletes, but especially in kids because they are already more susceptible.
Plus optimum performance and fast recovery start to give in – to quicker fatigue and greater soreness.

All signs their nutritional intake can’t quite keep up with the level and amount of physical and oxidative stress on their bodies. Which tends to have a cumulative effect over time.

Any good sports nutrition coach will tell you, fueling your athletes’ body is less about how much Gatorade they have and more about increasing the (whole) foods that fight free radicals, inflammation, and protect on a daily basis. Not just game day either, but every day!

And no, it’s just not true that “they’re kids – they can eat anything and run it off”.
You see, It’s not about their energy, it’s not about calories, or protein, it’s about their health, healing, and protection.

Nutrition matters at all ages, across all sports, and for all body types!

Set them up for success, and for health, season in and season out. (And give yourself a little peace of mind on those long game days when it’s nearly impossible otherwise!)
