Recovery smoothies have everything you need to rebuild, refuel, and refresh post-workout, especially the DE-lis-Cious ones in my FREE downloadable Complete Creations recipe book (featuring Juice Plus Complete Protein- but you can substitute your favorite flavored protein formula).
The 1-2 hours post-workout can be critical for recovery and consuming a high-quality protein AND carbohydrate source is key. Don’t make the same mistake many amateur athletes or avid exercisers make and chose any cheap option off the shelf. Be wary of cheap brands that are full of highly processed protein isolates, artificial sweeteners, and other fillers. Instead, when prioritizing nutrition as a part of your optimal performance training program chose a high-quality, natural, safe, and proven protein formula.
Think about it, if you were a sports car you wouldn’t refuel with regular gasoline and oil, no? You would choose the premium grade fuel for the premium grade sports car to ensure its peak performance so that it runs efficiently and maintains some longevity. Your body is no different. If performance, overall health, and long-term vitality are just as important to you, choosing premium fuel for your body is just as important.
So, I chose and always recommend a whole food option for recovery smoothies, something that is still easy and convenient to allow me to get that needed nutrition in quickly but without sacrificing nutrition, taste, or quality. Then, I mix it with some added whole foods and call it a perfect post-workout recovery smoothie!
Here’s the basic blueprint: Combine a healthy mix of carbohydrates for energy and protein to rebuild muscle (A 4:1 ratio is ideal). Add antioxidants — especially vitamin C — to help compensate for the temporary dip in your immune strength after intense exercise.[2] Voila! Recovery smoothie.
Do you know what has a great mixture of carbs, protein, and antioxidants? Complete by Juice Plus+! It contains:
